About 60 job seekers gathered at Thimphu TechPark on Wednesday, October 13, 2021, to attend the second episode of the event that is geared towards connecting them to labour market opportunities. The event was conducted by the Ministry of Labour and Human Resources (MoLHR) coinciding with the 10th anniversary of the Royal Wedding. Dubbed as Gowa: Connecting talents with the labour market, the event centred around sharing stories and listening to issues that job seekers face in the job market.

“His Majesty is very concerned with the rising unemployment situation in the country,” said Lyonpo Karma Dorji, Hon’ble Labour Minister, who presided over the event. “But at the same time, His Majesty is also optimistic that we can harness the potentials of our young population for the 21st-century economy.”

“We want to create every possible bridge, through online and offline programs, between the talent and the job available in the labour market. So, that everybody can become talented and get a job matching your talent,” said Lyonpo.

The job seekers were oriented towards various programs that MoLHR offers in facilitating the labour market. Programs like Youth Engagement and Livelihood Program (YELP), Overseas Employment Program, Build Bhutan Project (BBP), Entrepreneurship Development Program, and Skills Development Plans were shared with the job seekers.

The event also saw the sharing of success stories by those established entrepreneurs who went forward with their creative start-up ideas. Creative ventures like over-the-top (OTT) platform Samuh, Green Road and Yongchab Fabrication shared their experience of entrepreneurship to self-employment and create jobs for others too.The event ended with job seekers going on a tour around companies located in Thimphu TechPark, Technical Training Institute in Thimphu, and BBP sites.

The labour market disruption caused by the pandemic has called for such events to listen to issues of the job seekers and also connect them to opportunities that are otherwise lost forever.
