While the Labour Ministry has the online job portal, it has found offline strategies like on-the-spot hiring as one of the effective solutions to unemployment. 

As many as 100 job seekers were interviewed during the ‘on the spot’ recruitment drive facilitated by the Labour Ministry for the employers in Thimphu on Wednesday. Employers came with their job openings to find right candidates among many job seekers who fielded their resumes during the recruitment drive.

“This is so convenient and fast,” said Sonam Tshewang, 21, a VTI graduate, who got hired as the lathe operator for Lokith automobile workshop. “Thanks to the Labour Ministry for such an initiative. 

Given the issue of rising unemployment in the country, the Labour Ministry is exploring every possible method of steering the labour market dynamics.

“His Majesty is so concerned about the rising youth unemployment in the country,” said Karma Dorji, the Labour Minister, who presided the event. “We must be united in our endeavours to help our youths find gainful employment in the job market.”

About 26 employers attended the event who were familiarized with the various initiatives of the Labour Ministry to match the right talents with right job. 

“With such initiative, I’m sure changes are going to happen in the labour market that benefits both employers and job seekers,” said the owner of the Yangki Automobiles.

The recruitment drive was held as a part of Labour Ministry’s recent initiative to stimulate and incentivize the labour market. The Ministry has branded the initiative as Gowa Series that aims to raise awareness and connect various stakeholders in the job market like job seekers, employers, trainers, placement agencies, parents, policymakers, regulators, etc.

Many job seekers who attended the event also got shortlisted for further interview by the employers.
