The Embassy of India in Thimphu has officially opened the application window for the Ambassador’s Scholarship for the 2026–2027 academic year.
Following are the structured, comprehensive breakdown of the requirements, exclusions, and technical steps for the Ambassador’s Scholarship 2026–2027 cycle:
𝟏. 𝐅𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐒𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐜𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 & 𝐀𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐂𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐚
The scholarship functions as a one-time, lump-sum financial award. The final stipend amount is not fixed; it is calculated individually based on the student's course of study, academic merit, and other relevant evaluation factors. Because it is a short-term grant, recipients must manually reapply every single year during their course of study to remain considered.
𝐄𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐢𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐑𝐮𝐥𝐞𝐬 & 𝐄𝐱𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬
1. Permitted Tracks of Study
Applications are strictly limited to Bhutanese individuals enrolled in four specific educational pathways:
-Primary and Secondary School education
-College or University undergraduate and postgraduate degrees
-Vocational Training programs
- Buddhist Studies
𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐋𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 & 𝐀𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐭𝐞
~ Must be in India: This fund is strictly reserved for individuals already studying inside Indian institutions. Students studying inside Bhutan or a third country are entirely barred.
~Regular Attendance: Students must be pursuing offline/regular classes. (The application portal directly tracks this by requiring users to select "Offline/Regular" under the class mode option).
~Absolute Disqualifications
An applicant will be instantly rendered ineligible if they fall under any of the following categories:
~ Graduates: Anyone who has already passed out of their college, university, or school.
~Academic Delays: Students who are currently taking repeat examinations.
~Double Funding: Anyone already receiving a scholarship from the Government of India (GoI) or the Royal Government of Bhutan (RGoB). This explicitly includes recipients of the India Bhutan Friendship Scholarship, Nehru Wangchuck Scholarship, ICCR Scholarship, Nalanda University Scholarship, and the GoI Undergraduate Scholarship (coordinated by the RCSC, DAHE, or Ministry of Education and Skills Development).

𝐌𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐁𝐚𝐧𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 & 𝐃𝐨𝐜𝐮𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐑𝐞𝐪𝐮𝐢𝐫𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬:
1. Bank Account Rules
Inaccurate banking information will cause a complete failure in the disbursement of funds. The rules state:
- Location: The active bank account must be physically held in either an Indian or Bhutanese bank.
- Ownership: For college, vocational, and Buddhist studies students, the account must be in the exact name of the applicant. For school students, the account can be in the name of the applicant or their legal guardian.

2. Portal Formatting & Typing Protocol
- Capital Letters: All applicants must type their full name in CAPITAL letters into the online form.
- Data Verification: You must double-check that your Date of Birth, College/School ID, Registration Number, and Bhutanese Citizenship Identity Card (CID) Number are flawless. Mismatched papers will invalidate the application.

3. Required File Uploads (Max 3MB Per File)
Applicants must upload clear, legible, and compressed digital copies of the following documents:
- Bhutanese CID (Citizenship Card).
- Official Student ID Card.
- Academic Mark Sheet from the last class passed. (The portal requires selecting percentage tiers, tracking from “equal to or less than 55%” up to “above 95%”).
- Official School/College Certificate filled out strictly in the embassy's given format.
- Bank Passbook and a clear Bank Statement showing your most recent transaction.
- Digital Applicant Signature.

𝐒𝐮𝐛𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐌𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐨𝐝 & 𝐃𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬
-Hard Deadline: The absolute final date to submit the online form is 14 October 2026.
- Device Restriction: The embassy explicitly warns that applicants must NOT try to submit their application through mobile devices. The portal should only be navigated using a desktop computer or laptop.

𝐎𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐀𝐩𝐩𝐥𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐋𝐢𝐧𝐤𝐬:
- For College, Vocational, & Buddhist Studies: indembthimphu.gov.in
-For School Students: indembthimphu.gov.in
Note: A successful online submission generates a registration number starting with 2026. However, this serves only as validation of receipt and does not guarantee that the scholarship will be awarded.
