The Lhaki organization and industries was started by the farsighted and visionary person Dasho Ugen Dorji about three decades ago. The organization made a humble beginning starting with the operation of a Dolomite Mine in 1973 at Kalishwar under Phuentsholing Drungkhag, and in 1983 Dasho established a crushing plant in Pagli under Samtse Dzongkhag. Thereafter, the business opportunities and scope widened and a trading unit, Lhaki General Stores dealing in general items including hardware, electrical, plumbing & etc. was established. As the socio-economic development of the country progressed, and the construction horizon opened up in late 1980s Lhaki Construction Private Limited was established which was perhaps the first kind of construction firm in Bhutan. Later in the 1990s Dasho envisaged abundant requirement of construction materials for a developing nation, Dasho established the Lhaki Cement Plant in 1992 at Gomtu as the area had bountiful deposits of high grade limestone. Today Lhaki Cement is one of the foremost producers of superior quality grade of cement in Bhutan.
