In the wake of labour market disruption caused by the COVID-19 pandemic and given the new normal employment scenarios, the Ministry of Labour and Human Resources launched the ππ€π’π₯π₯π¬ πππ―ππ₯π¨π©π¦ππ§π ππ₯ππ§ (πππ) on October 4, 2021. The plan aims to provide skills to 5,000 Bhutanese job seekers over the year. The plan was conceived after His Majesty commanded the Ministry, in May this year, to meaningfully engage those Bhutanese who lost their jobs due to the pandemic by diversifying employment opportunities for them.
So, the heart of the plan lies in skilling and upskilling the Bhutanese people to participate in the developmental activities during and post-pandemic.The plan is aligned with demands for skilled people in the various economic sectors. The plan will help to build skilled workforce to overcome the current shortage of the workers and also reintegrate those workers who lost their jobs during the pandemic. The skills will be imparted through high-quality training modules in a phase-wise manner. The first phase will see skilling of at least 474 job seekers in 29 skill categories. The plan kicked off with the first batch of 24 job seekers enrolled in culinary arts training at the Royal Institute for Tourism and Hospitality (RITH) in Thimphu today. Gracing the ceremony, the Secretary of the Ministry, Dasho Tashi Wangmo, highlighted His Majesty’s command to train our Bhutanese youth to become productive citizens in the wake of rising unemployment situation in the country. Similarly, a batch of 11 job seekers was also enrolled in three-month training in farm machinery operation at Agriculture Machinery Training Center (AMTC) at Paro. The event was flagged off by Norbu Wangchuk, Director of the Department of Technical Education. The information on skills training opportunities is put up on the Ministry’s website. Job seekers can apply to these opportunities by registering with the Ministry.
