In collaboration with the Ministry of Health, Office of the De-Suung, and technical support from Khesar Gyalpo University of Medical Sciences, we supported training for four groups of DeSuup volunteers on basic frontline health care. This training will prepare basic health care providers in each district to manage COVID-19 related cases more efficiently.

After the training, these De-Suup volunteers will be skilled in assisting healthcare workers in COVID isolation facilities. They will be prepared to help in a worst-case scenario from the pandemic.

The contents for the training include management of the deceased, administrating oxygen levels, infection prevention, and handling of COVID-19 positive patients, among other essential hands-on skills.

As of today, a total of 120 De-Suup volunteers from six districts are trained from this program.

De-Suung, which means “Guardians of Peace,” is a noble initiative of His Majesty The King to promote the spirit of volunteerism and the value of community service, integrity, and civic responsibility in society. The De-Suups will supplement existing health and security personnel working in various capacities across the country in combatting COVID-19.
