Position: Forestry Technology Operations & Sustainability Manager
We are seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Forestry Technology Operations & Sustainability Manager to oversee forestry operations, environmental sustainability programs, forest fire prevention initiatives, and wood resource management projects. The successful candidate will also support circular
economy strategies, including wood recycling and sustainable timber utilization technologies.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement sustainable forestry and conservation management plans.
• Lead afforestation, reforestation, and biodiversity conservation initiatives.
• Design and manage forest fire prevention and wildfire risk reduction programs.
• Establish fire monitoring systems, emergency response procedures, and fire safety awareness campaigns.
• Coordinate firebreak development, hazard reduction activities, and wildfire preparedness strategies.
• Oversee sustainable harvesting, timber resource planning, and wood utilization projects.
• Support the implementation of recycling technologies in the wood industry, including wood waste recovery, biomass utilization, wood pellet production, recycled timber processing. and circular economy initiatives.
• Identify innovative technologies for reducing wood waste and improving sustainable material recovery processes.
• Utilize GIS mapping, remote sensing, drones, and digital monitoring systems for forest management and fire detection.
• Conduct field surveys using technical forestry instruments including clinometers, calipers, GPS devices, and aerial photo interpretation tools.
• Ensure compliance with forestry, environmental, recycling, and safety regulations in Bhutan.
  Supervise forestry teams, field personnel, technical staff, and contractors.
• Prepare environmental impact assessments, sustainability reports, and operational budgets.
• Collaborate with IT and environmental teams to integrate smart forestry technologies and data-driven environmental solutions.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Associate's or Bachelor's degree (Master's preferred) in Forestry, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, Wood Technology, or a related field.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in forestry management, environmental sustainability, or wood industry operations.
• Proven experience in forest fire prevention, wildfire management, or emergency response planning is highly preferred.
• Experience with recycling technologies in the wood industry, biomass processing, wood waste recycling, or sustainable timber production is strongly preferred.
• Strong physical stamina with the ability to hike rugged terrain, carry and operate heavy field equipment, and work effectively in extreme weather and remote outdoor conditions.
• Proficiency with technical forestry instruments including clinometers, calipers, GPS devices, and aerial photo interpretation.
• Demonstrated hands-on experience operating forestry extraction equipment, including skidders and winches, in field logging and timber hauling operations.
• Strong understanding of sustainable forestry practices and environmental compliance standards.
• Experience with GIS software, drone technology, remote sensing, or environmental monitoring systems is an advantage.
• Excellent leadership, communication, and organisational skills.
• Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary and multicultural environments.
• Fluency in technical English required; knowledge in technical forestry German as well as Dzongkha is an added advantage.

Preferred Skills

• Experience in climate resilience, carbon management, or circular economy projects.
• Knowledge of wildfire suppression strategies and fire risk assessment.
• Familiarity with smart forestry systems and environmental analytics.
• Experience in sustainable wood processing and biomass energy technologies.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and reporting capabilities.
