MEDEL Elektromedizinische Geräte Gesellschaft m.b.H seeks a service provider based in Thimphu, Bhutan to develop and deliver training in hearing screening and hearing loss rehabilitation.

Programme Introduction:

MED-EL Elektromedizinische Geräte GmbH, based in Innsbruck (Austria), is a global technology company that researches in the field of hearing loss and develops and manufactures implantable hearing systems. The central mission of the company is to overcome hearing loss as a barrier to communication and quality of life. MED-EL, as a family-owned company, has a long-term perspective and wants to contribute to the local socio-economic development in developing and emerging regions.

Therefore, MED-EL in cooperation with the Austrian Development Agency (ADA) is working on the
implementation of a Strategic Partnership with the aim to “Empower the Hearing Healthcare Sector in Developing and Emerging Countries”. The overall goal is to achieve significant improvement and development of the care of hearing-impaired and deaf people, and to create sustainable infrastructure and capabilities in health care.

At a high-level, the project comprises of the following central elements:
• Capacity Development for Sustainable Structures in the Hearing Healthcare Sector
• Early Diagnosis for Hearing-Impaired People
• Qualification of Local Hearing Healthcare Experts
• Communication, Research & Gender Equality

In Bhutan, MED-El has also partnered with the Hear, Listen and Speak Program, itself a partnership of Medtronic Labs and the United Nations Technology Bank. Strengthening the hearing healthcare sector in the Kingdom of Bhutan and providing a continuity of care for those with hearing impairment are the joint goals of the Hear, Listen and Speak Program and the Empowering the Hearing Healthcare Sector in Bhutan Project. Together through a strategic co-operation, these programs are working to significantly improve the diagnosis and (re)habilitation of people with hearing impairment by establishing a nation-wide new-born and school-child hearing screening program and training local hearing healthcare professionals.
The local project implementation will be led by the JDWNRH (Jigme Dorji Wangchuk National Referral Hospital), Thimphu. The present position of a Project Manager, Bhutan – Clinical Support (Screening, Tracking & Data Analysis) will be created in the within the scope of the project to support the implementation of the hearing screening program and training/awareness activities.

Job Overview:
The Project Officer – Training and Clinical Support, Bhutan will develop and deliver training in hearing screening and rehabilitation to a wide range of audiences in Bhutan and support clinical activities as required. This training will cover areas such as rehabilitation for hearing impairment and the screening for hearing impairment. It may be addressed to the caregivers of people with hearing impairment, healthcare workers, and allied professionals such as teachers and school officials. Clinical support may include assisting with the organisation and implementation of hearing screening, tracking, and data analysis in the field. The successful candidate will also assist in related administrative and awareness-raising activities of the project in close co-ordination with the clinical team and partner organisations and projects.

Overview of main responsibilities:
The Project Officer is responsible for the training activities of the Project. The content and delivery of these
materials will be supported by MED-EL’s subject matter experts. The Project Officer will:
• Develop and deliver ‘training of trainers’ programmes in the areas of hearing rehabilitation and hearing
screening in collaboration with MED-EL’s subject matter experts
• Develop and deliver hearing rehabilitation training and resources to the caregivers of people with
hearing impairment in collaboration with MED-EL’s subject matter experts
• Develop and deliver training in hearing screening and the care of people with hearing impairment to
allied service professionals such as nurses, teachers, social workers etc. in collaboration with MED-EL’s
subject matter experts

Additionally, the Project Officer will provide general project support which will include:
• Assist with hearing screening tracking and data management
• Support and plan project activities
• Ensure that all tasks are delivered on-time, within scope and within budget
• Constant knowledge-exchange and coordination with the key partners
• Maintain regular, clear communication between colleagues and implementation partners
• Maintain good professional relationships with all partners and stakeholders
• Perform risk management, especially reporting and escalating matters to management on time
• Create and maintain comprehensive Project documentation including the preparation of biannual
narrative and financial reports

Project Officer Requirements:
The Project Officer should have a background in medical-related fields and/or education and training. He or she should be an excellent communicator and be comfortable managing multiple tasks. This person also needs to be a team player and have a problem-solving aptitude.

Requirements:
• Proven working experience (3-5 years) in a professional field involving training and/or communication.
A background in health and medical fields (especially in hearing healthcare) is advantageous.
• Relevant qualification or diploma
• Formal or informal experience in training, education or mentoring
• Excellent language skills in English
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Solid organizational skills including attention to detail and multi-tasking skills
• Confident, interested, high quality awareness, ability to learn quickly, positive approach to problem
solving
• Good technical understanding
• Presentation skills
• Proficient use of IT (word, excel, power point, outlook)

Working conditions:
• Working Hours: Full-time (at least 40 hours/week) for the remaining project duration until 31 January
2026.
• Place of work: Thimphu, Bhutan
• Clinic / hospital and partner visits in Bhutan may be required from time to time
