Coinciding with the coronation day of the Great Fourth Druk Gyalpo, the Bhutan Accreditation Council launched the Rubrics for Standards of Institutional Accreditation during 21st Council Meeting held on 2nd June 2021. The Council also awarded an accreditation certificate to the Faculty of Postgraduate Medicine (FoPGM), Khesar Gyalpo University of Medical Sciences of Bhutan (KGUMSB). The institute secured “Grade B” which is categorized as “Good.” FoPGM is the first Higher Education Institution (HEI) that is accredited using the rubrics. The use of rubrics is expected to enhance objectivity in the accreditation exercise. The management team received the certificate on behalf of the institute.
The rubrics for institutional accreditation was initiated as per the directives of the 17th BAC meeting. The division conducted consultation meetings with all HEIs, and piloted in two HEIs viz Norbuling Rigter College, Royal University of Bhutan, and Faculty of Nursing and Public Health, KGUMSB to study the effectiveness. The rubrics will be used to accredit all the HEIs hereafter.
