The Legislative Committee of National Council met with the members of Core Coordination Committee of Civil Society Organizations today as requested by CCC to discuss on the issues and concerns related to operation and regulation of CSOs as a part of reviewing CSO Act for possible amendment by the Committee.
The CCC presented on the CSO scenario in Bhutan, their challenges on the ground and way forward towards improving current environment to the Committee. The various existing issues and challenges faced like registration process of new CSOs, Board composition of CSO Authority, appointment of CSO Board members from Civil service and Public sectors and classification of CSOs like Public Benefit Organization, Mutual Benefit Organization and specially Community Based Organization which are largely emerging in the country were discussed. Hon’ble members also sought general comments on the operations and regulation of CSOs and other feedbacks on the specific provisions of the Act for amendment.
The LC is in the process of finalizing the Act to table it for amendment in the up-coming session, which will begin on May 27.
