On April 27, Chief Representative of JICA Bhutan Office, Mr. Kozo Watanabe and the Secretary of Ministry of Works and Human Settlement, Mr. Chencho Dorji signed the Record of Discussions for the Project for Formulation of Southern Central Regional Plan. The signing was witnessed by the Director of the Gross National Happiness Commission, Mr. Rinchen Wangdi.
The Project will develop a Regional Plan focusing on Sarpang, Tsirang and Zhemgang Dzongkhag, and guidelines for the development of regional plans in other regions of the country as per the recommendations of Comprehensive National Development Plan 2030 (CNDP 2030) which was developed with support from JICA .
During the preparation period leading up to the signing of the Record of Discussions, it was difficult to visit Bhutan due to COVID-19. The preparatory mission conducted several remote meeting with the related organizations to finalize the contents of the RD. This project will be implemented over 29-month period starting tentatively from July 2021, and we will conduct activities under a flexible framework including remote surveys utilizing local resources from Japan, taking into consideration the pandemic situation.
