The Natural Resources and Environment Committee (NREC) of the National Council held a consultative meeting on land and timber-related issues with the officials from the Ministry of Agriculture and Forests (MoAF), Ministry of Works and Human Settlement (MoWHS), National Land Commission (NLC), and Bhutan Power Corporation Limited (BPCL) led by the Division Chiefs.

The committee held an interactive discussion with officials on issues such as; the conversion of wetland to residential areas, land compensations & substitution, land tax increases in urban areas, exchange land in rural areas, land replacement from government, fallow land, state land on lease for Cardamom plantation, excess land, land compensation payment, the procedure for government land leasing, return of private land construction of Community School, pending of land substitution for Gewog Center construction, land fragmentation, resurvey and relocation of land, online transfer of land ownership, land transaction tax and timber-related issues.

Further, the meeting also covers other issues such as road right of ways, BPCL transmission line, rural and urban incentives for households near the municipal boundary, and quality of community contracting works.The committee will present follow-up status on the above issues to the House's plenary session.

The meeting adjourned with a question and answer session.
