The Ministry of Health received 51,480 doses of adult Pfizer vaccines from the United States of America today. The vaccines were formally handed over by Ms. Patricia Lacina, Charge DÁffaires of the US Embassy in India, to Her Excellency Dasho Dechen Wangmo.

The US government has made five donations of COVID-19 vaccines so far since the first donation of 5,850 doses of adult Pfizer vaccines on 25th May 2021. Bhutan has received 6,81,020 doses (147,420 adult Pfizer, 33,600 pediatric Pfizer, and 500,000 Moderna) of COVID-19 vaccines from the US government’s support to the COVAX facility to date.

The US government has further committed to providing another 129,600 pediatric Pfizer vaccine doses by December 2022.

Through the Bhutan Foundation, the US government also provided total funding assistance of US $ 500,000 to support the overall health sector response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The project focused on strengthening Bhutan’s health sector response to the pandemic by providing critical equipment for COVID-19 patient management, personal protective equipment, infection control solutions, and medical transport facilities.

The United States has been a proactive and instrumental partner in Bhutan’s efforts to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.

Honorable Lyonpo, on behalf of the Royal Government of Bhutan and the Bhutanese people, conveyed heartfelt gratitude to the Government of the US for their unwavering support.
