Bhutan Badminton Federation (BBF) celebrates World Badminton Day on this special day. Today is the inaugural of World Badminton Day, which is being commemorated both domestically and globally.
Nine founding Member Associations (Canada, Denmark, England, France, Ireland, Netherlands, New Zealand, Scotland, and Wales) formed the International Badminton Federation (IBF), on July 5, 1934, today known as the Badminton World Federation (BWF). The Badminton World Federation has decided to establish a day called “World Badminton Day” and celebrate every year on this day starting in 2022 in recognition of this outstanding achievement and to make July 5 a day of celebration for badminton across the world.
Three volunteer coaches received Certificates of Appreciation from BBF on this wonderful day as well. Thank you to Mr. Dorji Dukpa from Haa, Mr. Kinley Gyeltshen from Wangdue Phodrang, and Ms. Deki Tshomo from Paro for your contributions and commitment to developing badminton in your communities. BBF was able to reach out to more participants thanks to their voluntarism.
Following that, the Air-Badminton was launched by the honorable Chief Guest, Mr. Sonam Karam Tshering, Secretary General of the Bhutan Olympic Committee and Mr. Kinley Tshering the General Secretary of the BBF. A new outdoor game a project of Badminton World Federation, ambitious development initiative to provide chances for players of all ages and skill levels to play badminton on hard, grass, and sand surfaces in parks, gardens, streets, playgrounds, and beaches throughout the globe. The goal of introducing air badminton is to develop a practical, affordable, and long-lasting approach to encourage more people to play badminton in more locations. It is durable, has good flight performance, and may be played with the same rackets. Above all, it can resist wind upto 20 km/h. The major goal is to make the sport more accessible on any surface and eventually gain widespread fame.
Following that, students from Dechencholing High Secondary School engaged in playing fun games such as Accuracy Shot, King of Court, Shuttle Throw and Air Badminton.
This special Annual Day celebration will encourage our Bhutanese children to take up badminton as a sport and will be observed in Bhutan moving forward. Taking up badminton will give our athletes a chance to showcase their abilities. The sport of badminton in Bhutan has lagged behind without any encouragement from us. We want to designate this day as the Annual Day program to promote badminton so that our kids who show an interest in the sport are recognized. Additionally, we think that a dedicated day event like this will encourage many of people to play badminton.
Due to COVID-19, we have been unable to host any significant badminton tournaments for the previous two years. However, this year’s reduced COVID-19 outbreak scenario has allowed us to plan and commemorate this significant day in badminton history. Therefore, the Bhutan Badminton Federation wishes everyone who enjoys badminton a happy World Badminton Day.
