Family tree is a verified document provided by the DEPARTMENT OF CIVIL REGISTRATION & CENSUS which contains detailed information about your family members which are under the same censuses. It contains information about the members such as their date of birth, citizen identity card number (CID), Marital status, name and CID number of their parents and their nationality. In addition, you can also get Household Number, Dzongkhag name, Gewog, village, House number, and Throm Number given in the document.

Family tree is needed for various application purposes such as loan, marriage, visa process, further studies, inheritance, to process birth certificates etc. and also people apply for a family tree when you need to check your census and information about your household.

Prior to COVID we usually obtain family trees from Dzong, Gewog and the department of immigration and census in person. Now the DEPARTMENT  has created an online service to conveniently acquire your household information. We have described in detail about how to apply online.

Online application for family tree

  5. There is an option to provide other information.
  6. Then there is space to upload Supporting Documents which is a Letter of Consent/Authorization if the Household Information is sought on behalf by a person other than a member of the household.
  7. Enter Application Date (format should be date/ month/ year)

Your family tree is expected to be received within one day of application submission if you have the head of household in your household and it will be sent to your email.

NOTE: It is vital to note that online application for family trees works only during working hours, from 9 AM. In addition, they accept maximum applications of only 50 per day and it's recommended to apply as early in the day as possible.
