What is a SEN-Aide?

Children in schools are taught to develop academic skills, social skills, and independence. Teachers assist children to develop knowledge and gain an understanding of the world around them.  Besides learning academics, teachers help children to understand the rules of play and social interaction, sharing and caring. However, not all children learn at the same pace as their peers and may need additional support in some areas. This is where the role of the SEN-Aide begins.

By definition, a SEN-Aide is an educational assistant who works directly with a single child or more children (depending upon the abilities of the child) with disabilities during his/her early school years. SEN-Aides are often referred to by various names depending on the country they are based in like shadow teachers, Co-teachers, paraprofessionals, student aides, teacher aides, student tutors etc.

These SEN-Aides understand a variety of learning disabilities and how to support them accordingly. Providing a SEN-Aide allows the child to attend a mainstream class while receiving the extra attention that he/she needs. The role of a SEN-Aide is to support the student(s) at school by helping fill in the gaps in the learning process, to help the student build self-confidence, as well as to promote positive interaction in the classroom by helping the student focus on important concepts, and overall help the student to develop academic and social skills. While supporting the child/children, a SEN Aide must also help the child/children to develop independent learning skills and manage their own learning to the extent possible. Every child is unique; therefore, the approach and teaching methods and techniques used by each SEN- Aide is designed based on the needs of the individual student.

Employing agency: Phensem Parent Support Group Bhutan

Minimum qualification: Class 12 graduate from BCSEA or equivalent

(Note: Exceptions may be made if candidate has had prior experience and knowledge of the work required.)

Remuneration: Lumpsum salary @ Nu.10,000 per month (including Nu 5000 per month from YELP support) for a contract period of 1 year.

Selected candidates will sign a contract with Phensem PSGB and you will start training w.e.f.  11^th April 2022.
