What is goBoB?
goBoB is a digital wallet powered by Bank of Bhutan Limited (BOB) launched on November 11, 2021, coinciding with the 66th Birth Anniversary of our Fourth Druk Gyalpo Jigme Singye Wangchuk. It is now the fourth digital wallet that has entered the Bhutanese financial market. Since BOB already has it's core app mBOB which was the first mobile banking app in the country and became hugely successful, many may wonder why introduce goBOB now? We take a look at the app and its features and how it is different from mBOB. We also show you how to register for goBoB.
goBOB vs mBOB
The biggest criticism most digital wallets receive is the charge they levy to take out the money from their wallet. Like any other digital wallet, goBoB charges 3.5% of the amount while adding money to our goBoB wallet using cards and 2% for sending money to our bank accounts. We can’t really blame the charge though, as it is the bread and butter for all digital wallets, it is the only way they sustain. In addition, goBoB is clearly inferior compared to the services mBOB has built over the years. The utility bill payments are not yet present in goBOB. Transfer to other banks (other than BOB) cannot happen at this time and mobile recharge can be done only on BT. But we are certain, these features will be enabled soon or eventually.
The reason goBOB had to be introduced was to bring digital financial services to the unreached section of the population and achieve greater financial inclusion. This mainly includes people with no CID or bank account. International tourists will also be targeted to provide easy financial services during their visit in Bhutan. It not only makes it possible for these sections of people to avail financial services but also makes it convenient for everyone else to open an account on the go. Opening an account has never been this easy and we can see youths with or without CIDs, opting for goBoB over mBoB purely for convenience! Even the users who already have a bank account can now transact with the ones who don’t. For instance, you can send money to a relative in your village who doesn’t have a bank account and if you are a merchant, you can accept digital payments from customers without a bank account.
Other advantages include a 4% cashback on every recharge and top-up done for BT which mBoB and no other mobile banking apps provide. It also adds a useful feature to split bills among friends conveniently. Another handy feature that would interest many is the "request money". We can request money from others or use it to fulfill your philanthropic side to give to others.
It also claims to be one of the first digital wallets that can scan any Bhutanese bank's QR code for scan and pay.
Moreover, it has employed a clever marketing strategy to reward Nu. 10 per referral. If you aren't using goBoB yet and if you are planning to download it, please use our referral code "17866564" to support this free social project Dzi Seldra. Then you can similarly share your own referral code to earn Nu. 10 while referring to your friends.

Conclusion
While mBOB will remain the primary app of BOB and will continue to serve us, goBoB is targeting the unbanked and the unreached population in the country. For mBOB users, goBoB may appear as a sub-version of mBOB, however, it does provide you the opportunity to bank with the unbanked population (especially if you are a merchant) and also gain perks such as cashback policies on mobile recharges.
