Her Excellency Dasho Dechen Wangmo met Dr. Hanan Balkhy, Assistant Director General of Antimicrobial Resistance(AMR) at the sidelines of the World Health Assembly today. In the brief meeting, they discussed the growing threats of AMR to human health. Lyonpo was briefed by the ADG on the developments related to AMR and also the Global Leaders Group (GLG) on AMR at the WHO. The importance of adopting a multi-sectoral approach in tackling AMR was noted. The parties also recognised the need to enhance health system resilience in combating AMR and ensuring preparedness to successfully counter and manage the potential large scale threats of AMR.
Lyonpo acknowledged the importance of engaging all relevant stakeholders in enhancing national preparedness and efficiencies in addressing AMR. Her Excellency apprised the ADG that Bhutan strongly endorses the need to adopt a one health approach in keeping a check on AMR. Lyonpo informed the ADG that she is honored to be a part of the GLG and assured her full support in carrying forward the critical mandates of the group.
