Lyonpo apprised the WHO officials on Bhutan’s efforts to address gastric, cervical and breast cancers through the health flagship program. She also apprised the officials on Bhutan’s commitment to eliminate cervical cancer and the major interventions initiated to this effect.
Dr. Mikkelsen extended an invitation to Her Excellency to share Bhutan’s experiences with the health flagship in WHO’s global forums on cancer prevention and control.
The WHO expressed their interest to collaborate with Bhutan in the following areas of cancer prevention and control in the country:
- Workforce strengthening through short, medium and long term capacity building programs;
- Enhancing the engagement of data and research in cancer prevention and control;
- Strengthening cancer screening and diagnosis through innovative means such as tele-pathology; and
- Assessing the social and economic impacts of cancer on the general population.
