The Environment and Climate Change Committee (ECCC) is in consultation with relevant agencies related to the Biodiversity Bill of Bhutan 2021. The Biodiversity Bill of Bhutan 2021 was referred to the ECCC in the 5th Session of the Third Parliament and the Committee has to submit a review report in the upcoming 6th Session.
In lieu of the preparation, the Committee sought a presentation on Biodiversity Bill 2021 from the National Biodiversity Centre on 20th July and then met with other related agencies like the Department of Forests and Park Services and the Department of Livestock on 23rd July 2021. The Committee also met and made a field visit to National Centre for Hydrology and Meteorology on 16th July.
The Committee will conduct similar consultation meetings with the Department of Agriculture, National Plant Protection Centre, National Soil Service Centre, Bhutan Agriculture, and Food Regulatory Authority, National Environment Commission, Bhutan Ecological Society, etc. on a scheduled date.
The information collected through such meetings will be used while reviewing the Biodiversity Bill of Bhutan 2021.
