UNICEF Representative Call on the Chairperson of Social and Cultural Affairs Committee

The UNICEF Representative to the Country Office in Bhutan Dr. Will Parks made a courtesy call on the new Chairperson of the Social and Cultural Affairs Committee today. On behalf of the committee the Chairperson welcomed Dr. Parks and team and expressed her gratitude to the UNICEF for its constant support for the well being of children in Bhutan. She then gave an overview of the Committee’s ongoing review of Suicide and Mental Health Issues in the country for which UNICEF offered their support if required. Discussing the issue Dr. Will Parks shared that mental health of children is the key focus of UNICEF’s global health flagship publication for this year . He suggested the committee to use the methodology used by London School of Economics for the review.

The Committee will meet UNICEF along with other UN agencies in the coming week as part of the consultation process on the review of Suicide and Mental Health issues in Bhutan.

The Former chairperson of the Committee Hon’ble Ugyen Namgay also attended the meeting.
