Buckwheat Export trial
[CLOSED] This post is no longer validFor the first time, we are trying out a buckwheat export trial in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and Forests. The Dzongkhag Agriculture Sector is now planning further to scale up buckwheat cultivation from this season.
Buckwheat is a minor crop however it is an indispensable food for the Bhutanese people. We see a lot of potentials to scale up this commodity in most Gewogs under Chhukha Dzongkhag. This crop requires very less agronomy practices and many farmers can take up this program. Besides that, we can bring many acres of fallow land under cultivation too. Regarding uses, Buckwheat is a highly nutritious whole grain that many people consider to be a super food and improves heart health, promote weight loss and help manage diabetes. Buckwheat can be one important food provision at times of food shortage and during a disruption in the food supply chain.
