Job Description

Key Responsibilities

Retail Strategy, Development & Tenant Mix

1. Support development and implementation of a comprehensive retail strategy for the High Street Commercial District (5 streets), aligning with GMCA’s master development framework.

2. Define and curate tenant mix strategies emphasizing Bhutanese and international brands, craft-based enterprises, experiential retail, and sustainable business models.

3. Conduct market analyses, consumer behavior studies, and benchmarking against leading regional retail destinations.

Placemaking & Experience Design

1. Assist the design and implementation of placemaking strategies that enhance public spaces, streetscapes, and community engagement within retail and educational districts.
2. Work closely with architects, urban designers, and cultural curators to create human-centered, inclusive, and climate-responsive environments.
3. Program and coordinate events, markets, performances, and installations that animate public spaces and celebrate Bhutanese culture.

Investment Promotion & Partnership Development

1. Support identification and engagement of potential investors, operators, and anchor tenants for retail and educational clusters.

2. Assist in negotiations, leasing strategies, and business case development for priority projects.

Project Development & Coordination

1. Support the planning and implementation of high-street and educational district developments.
2. Monitor project milestones, risks, and performance indicators; prepare regular reports and recommendations for the management team.
3. Represent GMCA at local and international forums, promoting education, retail, and placemaking agenda.

Reporting & Accountability

The Associate Director, Retail and Placemaking, reports to the Director of Business Development, GMCA, and collaborates closely with other to ensure the integrated delivery of GMCA’s economic and cultural development mission.

Salary Range

- Negotiable based on the Experience and Specialization
