The Human Rights and Foreign Relations Committee led by the Chairperson of the Committee, Hon’ble Passang Dorji today conducted Consultation Meetings on United Nations Convention against Corruption (Amendment) (UNCAC) and on the Preferential Trade Agreement between the People’s Republic of Bangladesh and the Royal Government of Bhutan. 

The officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Anti-Corruption Commissions were the stakeholders consulted to address the legal dilemma arising out of the inability to deposit Parliament’s reservation on Article 66(2) of the UNCAC. The UNCAC is the only globally binding legal instrument against corruption 

The Preferential Trade Agreement (PTA) between the People’s Republic of  Bangladesh and the Royal Government of Bhutan was presented and deliberated with the Committee Members by officials from the Ministry of Economic Affairs. The PTA is aimed to establish a preferential trading arrangement, explore all appropriate measures to promote, facilitate, expand and diversify bilateral trade and reduce or eliminate barriers to trade. It is also expected to enable the two Governments to negotiate and formalize measures for the better conduct of trade bringing more transparency, predictability, and reliability of the respective trading regimes, and ensure sustainability in conducting trade between the two countries. 

Both the International Instruments will be deliberated in the upcoming 5th session of the Third Parliament.
