A five days Training of Trainers on International Classification of Diseases version 11 (ICD-11) is taking place from 25 to 30 December 2019 in Tsirang. The training is being conducted in preparation to adopt ICD-11 by 2022 as per the resolution of World Health Assembly in 2019.
ICD-11 contains around 55 000 unique codes for injuries, diseases and causes of death. Currently, a modified version of ICD-10 is being used by the Ministry. The main purpose of the ICD is to enable the systematic recording, analysis, interpretation and comparison of mortality and morbidity data collected in different countries or areas and at different times. The use of ICD is expected to improve the understanding of the general health situations of population, monitoring incidence and prevalence of diseases and their determinants. ICD is also suitable for studies of financial aspects of a health system, such as funding or resource allocation.
