WWF Bhutan and National Environment Commission Secretariat in collaboration with the IGES Centre Collaborating with UNEP on Environmental Technologies (CCET) organized a training on the application of Emission Quantification Tool for quantification of the Greenhouse gas (GHG) and Short-Lived Climate Pollutant (SLCP) from the municipal solid wastes management.
Officials from the Waste Management Division and Climate Change Division of the National Environment Commission Secretariat, Thimphu Thromde, SamdrupJongkhar Thromde, Department of Renewable Energy, and Jigme Namgyel Engineering College attended the training last week.
The application of EQT training was aimed at building the local capacity to assess the GHG and SLCP emissions from the current waste management and also help the municipal solid waste sector identify climate-friendly waste management options. The tool also monitors the mitigation progress. The training would support the assessment of the GHG and SLCP reduction potential of the environmentally sound technology piloted by WWF Bhutan and the Waste Management Division/National Waste Flagship in SamdrupJongkhar.
It is also intended that the tool will gradually be adopted for making informed decisions for environmentally friendly waste management systems in the country resulting in GHG and SLCP emission reduction from the waste sector. The Institute for Global Environmental Strategies (IGES) developed Emission Quantification Tool (EQT).
