The National Design and Arts Competition (NDAC) is an annual event organized by the Textile Museum under the Department of Culture, Ministry of Home and Cultural Affairs, and the Royal Textile Academy of Bhutan (RTA) to promote the unique arts and crafts of Bhutan by encouraging and providing a befitting platform and recognition to artisans under the Royal Patronage of Her Majesty Gyalyum Sangay Choden Wangchuck. The competition is held in the categories of Weaving (Gho and Kira), Embroidery, Traditional Painting, Contemporary Art, Wood Carving, Sculpture and Contemporary Art.
The prize money for each category is Nu. 120,000/- for first, Nu. 65,000/- for second and Nu. 32,500/- for the third position.
The specifications of the Wood Carving, Sculpture, and Traditional Painting categories in the 19th Annual National Design and Art Competition (NDAC) 2021 are as follows:
1. Wood Carving
Size: Maximum 4ft.
Minimum 5inches
*Should not be painted or polished
2. Sculpture
Size: Maximum 3ft
Minimum 18inches
*Should not be painted
*Entries are for statues only
3. Traditional Painting
Size: Maximum 6ft x 6ft (not including border)
Minimum 3ft (not including border)
*Not to be framed but cut to finish
*Thuenpa Puenzhi and Tashi Taa-gye paintings do not qualify for participation
*If the painting is a kilkhor, the relevant statue of the kilkhor should be incorporated. A kilkhor without a statue is disqualified from entry.
*The paintings should be accompanied by a short description.
The submission of entries is in February 2022.
