The issue of educational poverty is a problem that we can and must tackle as a society after all, it is the little drops of water that make the mighty ocean. Please help us send two more students to college this year. Let us ensure that the hard work, talent, and passion of our youth are not wasted but groomed to turn them into educated, mindful, and exemplary leaders of tomorrow.

The Loden Education Initiative aspires to empower our youth with an education of the mind and heart. This holistic education plays a crucial part in our society’s growth and progress. It is also one of the most valuable assets and legacies that one can offer someone. However, there are countless other underprivileged children and youth that Loden was unable to help simply because of limited funding. For most of our scholarship recipients, education is a gateway to break out of generational poverty & inequality, and an empowering tool to enable them to rise above their circumstances whilst also lifting others around them. Education is priceless, yet the reality of the cost of higher education has stunted and stricken the dreams of many young, bright, talented and exceptionally hard working youth. It takes a community to raise a child, and today we are seeking your support in creating a more equitable education system by first enabling every youth to pursue their education without having to carry financial burdens beyond their age – help us help our own people.

Although Loden's effort has ensured higher education for 10 students last year, not being able to do the same for the 391 other applicants and many others seeking support for their education is an issue that does not and should not sit right with the values of our society. This is not merely a number but the lives of young, passionate, and talented people unable to pursue their dreams simply because of financial situations they did not choose to be born in. Yet the choice we make today to help them can bring them even a step closer to their dreams and aspirations.

Initially, students like Dorji Lhamo and Tashi Yangdon did not receive the financial aid they needed to pursue their undergraduate studies not because they were less deserving or hardworking but simply because Loden lacked funds to support more than 10 individuals.

Dorji Lhamo is the youngest of 4 children who are being raised by their single mother after their father passed away in 2015. Her mother’s income as a farmer is barely enough to make ends meet, let alone fund Dorji’s undergraduate studies. It was demoralizing for Dorji to see her two elder siblings dropout of high school because of the family’s economic hardship, paradoxically Dorji felt an even bigger urge to pursue her further studies and be a first generation college student from her family. For two years she put her dream on hold but did not give up on it as she eagerly waited to re-take her class 12 examinations. Although she received a 50% scholarship from Sherubtse College, she found her dream at the mercy of financial distress yet again. She did not have the heart to put the rest of the financial burden on her mother.

Tashi Yangdon is a compassionate young lady with a strong zeal to help others, despite her own hardships she is empathetic about the struggles of people who are more underprivileged than her. She and her two younger siblings took turns to use their father’s smartphone to attend their online classes during lockdown. Such challenges did not stop her from working hard and scoring 70.50% in her class 12 examinations; however, she is unable to pursue her undergraduate studies because she did not qualify for a state sponsored scholarship.

Today thanks to the funds raised from the community, Dorji and Tashi have become first generation college students pursuing their undergraduate studies in Environmental Management and Business Administration respectively. With your support we can help two more young individuals go to college this year.

What we saw in these young adolescents seeking the Loden Scholarship was not just financially strained people simply looking for funds, but rather hardworking individuals full of potential, hope for equal opportunity, zest for learning and strong resilience to push through their hardships. What they wanted was not sympathy, but a chance to be the best versions of themselves through education.

Who we are

At the core of all our education initiatives is the concept that knowledge is without an owner and everyone is entitled to it. We believe that financial cost should never be a barrier between a child and their education or an obstacle between a young person and their dreams. Driven by this simple belief, we initiated our Child Sponsorship and Youth Scholarship Programmes. CLICK HERE to learn more about Loden Education Initiatives.
